Sie denken ueber die Damen ;)

Last week's gloating of my lackey situation has put a small jinx on things. My two most needy sidekicks and their lackey (a sub-lackey, if you will), came to my office before class today to ask about their writing homework from last week - yes, they let questions fester. Since time was getting short, I offered them a lift in my car to class.

We were just about to go over a "speed hump," on the road to the classroom building when we saw two young Omani girls in their abayas and hijabs walking on the side of the road. Mah in the back said, thinking aloud but still reservedly, "Oh, ladies!"

Maz, sitting next to him in the back, said: Ms. Monique, why don't we have girls? Why boys?

Me: What do you mean we don't have girls?

Maz: In the class. We are all boys. Some classes have girls? Why don't have girls?

Om, sitting in front: Yes, Ms. We don't have any girls.

Me: But we do have a girl in the class.

Moh: No, we are all boys.

Me: But there is a girl in the class.

Om: Where?

Me: Me. I am a girl. I'm in your class.

Maz, Mah, and Om at the same time: No, no, no.

Maz: We need more girls, Ms.!

Om: Yes, Ms. You are not enough. We need more girls.

Me (in fake astonishment): How many more girls do you need?!

1/2 second of pondering silence, and then..

Maz: 21, Ms. We need 21 girls. (There are 21 boys in the class.)

Om: Yes, Ms. Fifty.

Me: Fifty?!!!!? You mean 50%?

Moh and Om: Yes, 50 half.

Maz: (distracted by seeing their other teacher's car) There's Mr. Jerry!

Me: Mr. Gary - Guh!

Maz: Yes, Mr. Gary. Why don't you park next to him?

Me: (driving past Mr. Gary and heading for a different empty spot that didn't involve making a last-minute 90-degree left-hand turn) Because I like this one.

All three: Yes, okay. It's a good spot, too.

Well, there you have it. College boys, whether culturally raised separately from girls most of their young adult social life or not, they've got girls on the brain...and are easily distracted by other cars.

On a side note, one of the students liked the Arcade Fire song playing in the vehicle. .
