Komodie

This past weekend, Erin and I were the only female performers for the 'Gags to Riches' comedy show at Sunset Beach Resort in Khobar. We weren't expecting much, and so we were greatly impressed when we had an audience of nearly 300 people and performed with 9 established and up-and-coming Saudi comedians. Most of the comedians are in their 20s and have spent a substantial time in either the U.S. or U.K and have now moved back to Saudi to work for professional companies. Their comedic theme is mostly to take the piss out of Saudi culture. Why they chose Erin and me to sing our five little Arabic medlies -- we're not sure. However, the audience REALLY enjoyed our songs and even clapped along with the last tune -- think 'Are You Sleeping?' lullaby melody with the lyrics of (translating here for you) 'Where is Ahmed? In the mosque. What is he doing? He's praying. / Where is Zaineb? In the room. What is she doing? Reading the Qu'ran.' They just loved it, Loved It, LOVED IT!

There was a small film crew from MBC (one of the national cable networks) recording the whole comedy show. If you see two paley white American girls singing opera, reggae, and lullaby songs in Arabic on your television screens anytime soon -- it's just "Erin and Monique: Girls Represent-in'" ممتاز!

Hopefully this success will inspire you two to take your show on the road. Let me know when the tour comes stateside.

August 18 at the Tigers' game...hope you're prepared.

Is that the correct date for the game? Or is it the 15th?
